Corona is upon us, and that has its limitations when it comes to hosting a wedding. Nevertheless, Julie and Marc managed to hold their wedding in beautiful surroundings at the Opera House in Copenhagen while complying with all the rules; creativity was needed here. It's December and everyday life is characterized by lockdowns and restrictions due to the corona pandemic.
Many people might think it would be impossible to have a wedding in these times, but Julie and Marc didn't see it that way. We asked them how it all went and how they went about organizing their wedding. Julie and Marc got married on 12.12.20 under the concept 'Vie i det fri'. It is a concept offered by the City of Copenhagen that allows couples to get married in beautiful and spectacular Copenhagen surroundings.
"Of course, it was frustrating that things kept changing. Especially the logistics of having to re-inform everyone every time there was a change in the guidelines. And the fact that we had to make the wedding even smaller than it already was didn't make it any easier either."
"We had to think outside the box. We are both in positions at work where we have used the IT tool Zoom when we had meetings. We thought that we could transfer that to a wedding - so we did. So we tested the possibility of bringing a cell phone to the wedding and broadcasting it to all our friends and family, both in Denmark and abroad. And that's how our guests ended up watching online using Zoom!"
"It ended up being a huge success and actually went even better than we could have imagined. All our friends and colleagues have been talking about it ever since and think it was a lot of fun and incredibly inspiring. We're very glad we did what we did and we can now look back on it as one of the highlights of the wedding."
"The Opera House where we got married is right next to the water, and the ceremony actually took place right on the edge of Copenhagen Harbor. So we encouraged all the friends who couldn't make it to the wedding to rent a boat to sail out into the harbor so they could join us. And they did; they came sailing in a GoBoat, and in this way we were able to solve the problem that we were only allowed to gather 5 people"
We don't like to plan too much. This is true even when there is no corona. We love to live in the moment and enjoy the moments that present themselves. Even though the wedding was characterized by the fact that corona was around us, we couldn't have dreamed of a better wedding. In fact, it turned out that we could still connect with our friends and family even though we were using Zoom. And it was especially brilliant when Marc's family lives in Australia - they were able to join us too.
We got married exactly how we wanted it. Things weren't overthought and it was absolutely perfect. We had planned to have the wedding in June, but we are very happy with our December wedding. And the energy of being able to look each other in the eye and say "we did it!" is just amazing."
